Cutting and grinding discs

Cutting and grinding discs

Cutting and grinding discs for angle grinders and other power tools: this category covers cutting discs, cut-off discs and sanding discs for metal, stainless steel, stone and tile.

They suit home DIYers and professionals alike. Our range has over 200 models, mostly from BOSCH, 3M, MAKITA and KWB.

How to choose a cutting or grinding disc

Diameter. The disc must match your grinder and the maximum diameter its guard allows. Most of our range is 125 mm and 115 mm, with 180 mm, 230 mm and 300 mm models for larger tools. Never fit a disc larger than the one stated on the tool.

Bore size. Most angle grinders use a 22.2 mm bore, and that is the size most of our discs have. Check your grinder's spindle before buying. A disc with a different bore may need a reducer ring or a different model.

Material. A disc made for metal is not suitable for stone, and a stone disc is not suitable for metal. Discs for stainless steel are usually made without iron, sulphur and chlorine compounds so that they do not leave spots that can rust. Tile and stone have their own discs.

Disc type. Cutting discs are thin and meant only for cutting in line with the disc, as they cannot take side pressure. Thicker grinding discs remove rough edges and weld seams, while sanding discs with finer grit smooth the surface. Most of our range is cutting discs.

Speed and compatibility. The disc's maximum permitted speed must be at least as high as the tool's top speed. Small multi-tools such as a Dremel need smaller dedicated discs, and some of our discs are marked as made for BOSCH tools, so check the product details.

Frequently asked questions

What diameter of disc do I need for my angle grinder?

Choose the diameter stated on the grinder's guard or rating plate. Smaller DIY grinders usually take 115 mm or 125 mm discs, while 230 mm discs are used for heavier work. Do not fit a disc larger than the permitted size, because it will not fit under the guard.

Can I use a cutting disc for grinding?

Generally not. A cutting disc is thin and designed to work only in line with the cut, so side pressure when grinding can make it break. Use a proper grinding disc for that job.

What is the difference between a metal disc and a stainless steel disc?

A stainless steel disc is usually made without iron, sulphur and chlorine compounds, so it does not introduce contamination that can cause rust. You can cut stainless steel with an ordinary metal disc, but the surface may start to rust later. If you work with both materials, separate discs are the safer choice.

When should I replace a cutting or grinding disc?

Replace the disc when it has clearly worn down, cracked, chipped or started cutting much more slowly. Discs bonded with organic resin also have an expiry date printed on them. Always wear safety glasses and keep the guard in place.
