How to choose a cooler mounting kit
Compatibility with your cooler. Most kits are made for one manufacturer's or one series' mounting system, so do not expect a truly universal set. Check the exact cooler model against the maker's compatibility list.
CPU socket. The mounting hole layout of Intel LGA1700 differs from the older LGA1200, so an old kit may not fit a new motherboard. For AMD AM5, many coolers reuse the same fixings as AM4, but it is still worth confirming before you buy.
What is in the box. Some kits contain only brackets, while others also include a backplate, screws and nuts. If you no longer have the spare hardware from your old cooler, choose a full set.
Purpose of the kit. Some kits adapt a cooler to a new socket, while some manufacturers also make accessories that improve mounting pressure, such as frames for Intel LGA1700 processors. Decide whether you need compatibility or better contact with the processor.
Installation work. Changing the mounting means removing the cooler and sometimes taking the motherboard out of the case. Have fresh thermal paste ready and check that your case has a cut-out for reaching the backplate.
