How to choose coffee machine accessories and cleaners
Compatibility. Filters, cartridges and tablets are often made for specific machine series from the same manufacturer. Before ordering, check your machine's model name and compare it with the compatibility given in the product description.
Product type. A water filter reduces the limescale in the water before it enters the machine, while a descaler removes deposits that have already formed. Cleaning tablets, cartridges and sets deal with coffee oils and residue. Our range includes water filters, cleaning tablets, descalers, cleaning sets, cleaning cartridges and descaler cartridges.
How it is used. Cartridges are usually inserted into the machine and run through its own programme, while tablets go into the compartment or spot the manufacturer's instructions describe. If you want as few steps as possible, choose what your machine recognises automatically.
Water hardness. The harder your water, the more often the machine needs descaling, and a filter lengthens the interval between treatments. Your water supplier can tell you the hardness, or you can measure it with test strips.
Replacement schedule. Filters and cartridges should be changed after the period or number of cups the manufacturer specifies. If you use the machine daily, keep a spare filter or cleaning set at home.

Frequently asked questions
How often should a coffee machine be descaled?
It depends on your water hardness and how much you use the machine. Many manufacturers recommend descaling several times a year, and more often in hard water areas. Many machines also remind you when it is due.
Does a coffee machine need a water filter?
Not every machine requires one, but a filter reduces limescale build-up and often improves the taste of the coffee. It is most useful where the water is hard. It must be replaced on time, otherwise it stops doing its job.
Can I use a universal descaler?
Often yes, but check the machine's manual first. If the machine has its own cleaning programme, cartridge or tablets, it is best to use the product the manufacturer specifies. Household substitutes such as vinegar are generally not recommended.
What is the difference between cleaning tablets and a descaler?
Cleaning tablets remove coffee oils and residue, while a descaler dissolves limescale deposits. They are two separate treatments and one does not replace the other. Looking after a machine properly normally requires both.
