How to choose a desk frame
Height range. The lowest position must suit sitting and the highest must suit standing, so start from your own height. Compare the manufacturer's stated adjustment range with your measurements, and remember to add the thickness of the desktop.
Load capacity. It must exceed the combined weight of the desktop, monitors, computer and everything else on the desk. A solid wooden top with several monitors weighs far more than a thin board with a laptop, so a small safety margin is worth having.
Motors and controls. Electric frames move at the touch of a button, while manual ones use a hand crank. Frames with two motors generally rise more evenly and carry more weight than those with one. For daily use, memory presets for your favourite heights and collision protection are handy.
Width and desktop size. Many frames have extendable crossbars, so they fit desktops of different widths. Check the permitted desktop dimensions and the leg positions so there is still room for your legs and a PC case under the desk.

Does a desk frame come with a desktop?
Usually not. A desk frame is just the structure with legs, motors and controls. You choose the desktop separately, so check the permitted desktop dimensions and weight in the product description before you buy.
What load capacity should I choose?
Choose a frame rated for several kilograms more than your desktop and all your equipment weigh together. A single monitor and a laptop need little capacity, while a heavy desktop with several monitors calls for a stronger frame.
Is a dual-motor frame better?
Usually yes, if the desktop is large or heavy. Two motors share the load between both legs, so the desk rises more evenly and wobbles less. For a small, light desk, one motor can be enough.
Can I assemble a desk frame myself?
Yes, most frames are assembled with the supplied tools and screws by following the instructions. Fitting the desktop is easier with two people, because it can be large and heavy.
