Audio cables and adapters connect speakers, headphones, amplifiers, TVs and computers. Our range includes 3.5 mm cables, optical TOSLINK cables, RCA leads and adapters between different connectors. You will find products from Equip, LogiLink, Qoltec, Delock and other makers, over 50 in total.
How to choose an audio cable or adapter
Connector type. Start by checking which sockets both devices have. Most cables in our range use 3.5 mm connectors, and there are also TOSLINK, 2 x RCA, 2.5 mm and a few less common options, such as banana plugs for speaker leads.
Analogue or optical signal. 3.5 mm and RCA cables carry an analogue signal, while TOSLINK carries digital audio as pulses of light. An optical cable is immune to electrical interference, so it is often used to link a TV to a soundbar or amplifier, but both devices must have an optical socket.
Length. Cables in our range run from 1 m to 5 m. Measure the distance with some slack, because a taut cable soon damages the plug or socket. A short lead is enough for a computer and desktop speakers, while a TV sound system often needs several metres.
Contact plating and plug shape. Some cables have gold-plated contacts and others nickel-plated. Gold does not oxidise, which helps if you plug and unplug the cable often. Most cables have straight plugs, but if a device stands right against a wall, look for an angled one.
Plug or socket. Most cables have a plug at both ends, but extension leads and adapters with a socket also exist. If you need to lengthen a headphone cable or connect a different type of jack, look for a product with a socket at one end.

Frequently asked questions about audio cables
What is the difference between a TOSLINK cable and a 3.5 mm cable?
A TOSLINK cable carries digital audio as light, while a 3.5 mm cable carries an analogue electrical signal. The optical cable is not affected by electrical interference, but both devices need optical sockets. A 3.5 mm jack is found on almost every phone, laptop and pair of headphones.
Do gold-plated contacts improve sound quality?
Gold plating does not usually make an audible difference. Gold does not oxidise, so the contact stays stable for longer, especially if you plug and unplug the cable often. Nickel-plated contacts are normally sufficient for everyday use.
What length of audio cable should I buy?
Choose a cable slightly longer than the distance you measured between the devices. At a desk 1 m or 1.5 m is enough, while a TV and sound system in a living room often need 3 m or 5 m. A cable that is too long does not harm the sound, but it can get tangled.
How do I connect a phone or computer to an amplifier with RCA sockets?
You need a cable or adapter with a 3.5 mm plug at one end and 2 x RCA at the other. Plug the 3.5 mm end into the audio output of the phone or computer, and the red and white RCA plugs into the amplifier inputs. First check that the amplifier has a free line-level input.
