Case panels and covers

Case panels and covers

Case panels and covers include side panels, slot and bay covers and other case parts that replace a damaged or missing piece or close off unused openings. The category suits anyone repairing or customising a PC. Our range has over 20 products, with brands including Inter-Tech, Delock, Lian Li and Thermaltake.

How to choose a case panel or cover

Case compatibility. Side panels are usually made for one specific case model, so check the exact case name and series first. Even neighbouring models from the same manufacturer can differ in dimensions and mounting points.

Purpose. Decide what is actually missing: a side panel, an expansion slot cover or a cover for an unused opening at the front. Slot covers close the empty positions on the rear panel where no expansion card is installed.

Material. Steel resists knocks, aluminium is lighter, and tempered glass lets you see inside but is heavier and more vulnerable to a hard impact. If the PC is moved or transported often, think twice before choosing glass.

Ventilation and fixing. Panels with vents or mesh let more air through, while solid panels reduce the noise that escapes. Also check whether the panel is held by screws or clips, and whether fixings are included.

Frequently asked questions about case panels and covers

Will a side panel fit any PC case?

No, side panels are normally made for a specific case model or series. Mounting points, dimensions and cut-outs differ, so check your case name and the manufacturer's compatibility information before buying.

What is the difference between a steel and a tempered glass panel?

A steel panel is sturdier and easier to look after, while a tempered glass panel shows off the components and lighting. Glass is heavier and can crack under a hard knock, so it needs more careful fitting and transport.

Can I run a PC without the side panel?

Technically yes, but it is not advisable for long-term use. Without the panel the airflow the case was designed for is disrupted, dust gets in faster and noise travels further. It is also easier to touch live components by accident.

What are expansion slot covers for?

They close the empty openings on the rear of the case when you are not using every expansion slot. This keeps out dust and helps air move the way the case designer intended. Slot covers are usually held in place with a single screw.
