How to choose a camera
Purpose. A security camera, an action camera and a studio light do completely different jobs, so decide what you need first. For protection choose a network (IP) camera, for sport and travel an action camera, and for photo shoots lights, tripods and other accessories.
Resolution and night vision. For general monitoring 2 MP is often enough, but recognising faces or number plates is easier with 4 MP or more. For night-time coverage look for models with infrared illumination.
Power and connection. A PoE camera needs only one network cable, which carries both the video and the power. A battery-powered Wi-Fi camera can be placed where there are no cables, but it will need recharging from time to time.
Weather resistance and storage. Outdoor cameras need a dust and water protection rating such as IP66. Recordings are usually kept on a microSD card, a video recorder or in the cloud. In our range the housings are mostly white or black, which makes them easy to match to a facade or interior.

Which security camera should I choose for my home?
For most homes a Wi-Fi or PoE IP camera with at least 2 MP resolution, night vision and a phone app is a sensible choice. A camera mounted outdoors needs dust and water protection, and if you would rather not run cables, you can choose a battery-powered model.
What is the difference between a PoE camera and a Wi-Fi camera?
A PoE camera receives power and sends data over a single network cable, whereas a Wi-Fi camera still needs a power lead or a battery. PoE is more stable, but it requires a cable run and a PoE switch or recorder.
Does a security camera need a memory card?
Not always. A card is needed when the camera records locally, while other cameras send video to a recorder or to the cloud. For cameras that record continuously, choose a card designed for long-term recording.
What memory card does an action camera need?
Usually a microSD card with a U3 or V30 speed rating, because high-resolution video needs fast write speeds. The camera maker states the exact requirement, and you should choose the capacity according to how long you plan to film.
