The Ottocast Ottosafe CA560-T dash cam is an integrated 2-in-1 system that combines the functionality of a car dash cam with a wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto adapter. The device allows you to convert the factory-installed wired Apple CarPlay system into wireless connectivity for iOS and Android phones. The camera records video in 2K resolution, saving traffic situations directly to a memory card. The entire kit consists of three interoperable units: a front dashcam mounted on the windshield, a rear camera, and a receiver that plugs into a USB port. This functional solution enhances the convenience of everyday multimedia use and provides greater control over your route.

Integration of the Dash Cam and Wireless Adapter

The device’s design combines two key functions into a single in-vehicle installation. The system consists of dash cams and a wireless receiver that communicate with each other during operation. Combining the dashcam with the wireless module eliminates the need to install two separate accessories in the vehicle. Thanks to its integrated architecture, the user gains simultaneous access to trip recording and wireless smartphone features.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Conversion

The receiver enables wireless conversion of the factory-installed, wired Apple CarPlay interface. The module allows for wireless activation of both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto without having to plug a cable into the phone each time. The built-in Bluetooth module handles the initial pairing of the device with the driver’s smartphone. After a one-time setup, the phone connects to the vehicle’s system without any user intervention. This solution preserves the full functionality of the factory multimedia screen without a tangle of cables in the cabin.

Video Recording and Loop Recording

The front dashcam records footage in 2K resolution, allowing you to capture details of the vehicle’s surroundings during your trip, while the rear dashcam records in Full HD quality. The device supports loop recording divided into individual clips, for example, 3-minute clips. In the dashcam menu, the user can enable or disable audio recording inside the cabin. The camera software also offers image adjustment features, including mirroring and vertical flipping of frames. Overwriting the oldest recordings ensures continuous recording without the risk of recording stopping due to the storage medium becoming full.

Camera preview directly on the factory screen

The system allows for direct integration of the camera feed with the vehicle’s factory multimedia screen. The driver can view a live video preview directly on the dashboard display. It is also possible to take individual photos while driving directly from the car’s screen. Furthermore, the system’s interface allows you to manage saved multimedia files without having to remove the memory card. This solution enables quick review of recordings directly from the driver’s seat.

Connection Management and Device Memory

The receiver is equipped with memory capable of storing up to the 2 most recently paired smartphones. The device automatically reconnects to the most recently used phone, and if that phone is unavailable, it attempts to connect to the second device within 15 to 30 seconds. The receiver features a multifunction “Smart” button designed for quickly disconnecting and switching between phones. This same button can also be used to put the module into P2P mode or reset its settings. This feature makes it easier for two drivers to share a single car.

Wi-Fi connectivity, mobile apps, and OTA updates

The cameras are equipped with their own built-in Wi-Fi access point for direct wireless communication. Users can manage the camera and recorded files via the dedicated GoLook and OttoPilot mobile apps. The use of direct P2P mode (Wi-Fi Direct) enables wireless software updates via OTA. Hardware diagnostics and the submission of technical support requests are also possible via a web browser.

Hardware Interfaces and Operating Status Indicators

The front dashcam is equipped with a USB-C power port, a TF/microSD card slot, and a 4-pin 2.5 mm jack connector for connecting the rear camera. The camera housing features a physical power/Wi-Fi button and a hidden reset button. The wireless receiver has a single USB-C female port, which serves both for power and data transmission to the vehicle. LEDs on both modules provide real-time status indicators for power, recording activity, connectivity, errors, and the update installation process. This allows you to monitor the proper functioning of the entire system at all times.
