The InLine® USB to Serial RS485 adapter enables a connection between a computer with a USB-A port and devices or networks with an RS485 interface. Communication takes place via a virtual COM port and supports existing software solutions without the need for complex adaptations.
Thanks to the FTDI FT232RNL chipset and automatic hardware-based direction switching for half-duplex operation, data transmission takes place without the need for additional software configuration. This makes the adapter suitable for configuration, diagnostic and communication tasks in Modbus RTU networks as well as other RS485 applications.
The integrated 120 Ω terminating resistor reduces signal reflections on longer bus lines. Protective diodes, a resettable fuse on the RS485 side, and a 200 mA PTC fuse and ESD protection on the USB side enhance operational safety. In addition, a USB-powered +5 V output with up to 400 mA is available for devices with low current consumption.
