The InLine® USB to Serial RS485 Adapter with lightning protection reliably connects computers with a USB-A port to RS485 networks and serial devices. It is suitable for applications in industrial automation, building automation, measurement and control technology, energy monitoring, and Modbus RTU communication.
The high-quality FTDI FT232RNL chipset ensures stable data transmission via a virtual COM port. Automatic direction switching is handled entirely by the hardware, simplifying commissioning as no additional software configuration is required.
The integrated protection circuit, compliant with IEC 61000-4-5, protects the RS485 interface against overvoltages, indirect lightning strikes and electrostatic discharges. This is supplemented by protective diodes, a resettable fuse, a 200 mA PTC fuse on the USB side, and a PGND connection – galvanically isolated from the signal ground – for cable shielding or protective earth connections.
With baud rates of up to 512,000 b/s, cable lengths of up to approx. 1.2 km and an integrated 120 Ω terminating resistor, the adapter is suitable for reliable RS485 communication even in demanding installations.
