The InLine® USB to Serial RS232 adapter with isolator connects modern computers with a USB interface to devices that still communicate via an RS232 interface. The connection is made via a 4-pin screw terminal and is provided as a virtual COM port, allowing existing applications to continue to be used without any modifications.
The integrated galvanic isolation electrically separates the USB and RS232 sides from one another. This reduces potential differences, ground loops and electrical interference. This enhances operational reliability, particularly in environments with sensitive electronics or differing earth potentials.
The FTDI FT232RNL chipset ensures reliable communication. In addition, an integrated isolated DC/DC converter, a 200 mA PTC fuse, ESD protection and TVS diodes protect the adapter and the connected devices.
The adapter supports only the RS232 signals TX, RX and GND. The two GND connections are internally connected to each other and form the galvanically isolated RS232 ground. No other RS232 control signals are available via the screw terminals.
